We left a bit early so that we could enjoy the waves, sand, and get some seafood. Morgann absolutely loved the waves. She was one wet kid by the time we left - the water was a balmy 46! The warmest it gets is about 65, but I'm sure that will not phase Morgann.

Rich and Morgann walking on the beach.

Fashion queen! For April, that is an extreme blessing. We still had a good amount of snow on the ground last year at this time. After our record breaking snowfall this winter, the sun's warmth couldn't have come at a better time. I'm a chaplain at a large grocery distribution plant, and part of my job is just to check up on everyone and see how they are doing - what a difference sun makes! We used to wonder why New Hamshirians spent as many waking hours possible outside during the summer - congregating on lawn chairs on the city sidewalk....now we know! After a long, hard winter, you feel the need to spend as much waking hours as possible under sunshine. I've been bringing all my work outside as possible to do on the porch as Morgann plays.

Manchester is divided by the Merrimack River. We are West-siders. West-siders are traditionally French Canadian and Catholic. Over the years, the West Side has become more diverse - however, there is a distinct West side/ East Side division and mentality. We hear stories of old Frenchies, whose brother moved 10 years ago "all the way over to the Eastside, and now I don't see him very much." The funny thing is, I don't go to the East side very often. On Sundays, I do pick up four people for church, but that is the extent of my ventures across the river during a typical week. (I do drive to Concord a few times a week for work and Morgann's school, which to some people here is like leaving the country!) Okay, I'm still getting to the point of the story. 10 days ago, a pedestrian bridge opened within a few minutes walk from our house that links the east side to the west side. It is beautiful and a great walk. Its now one of Morgann and my favorite things to do - go walk the bridge. So we've gone at least 8 times since then and walked - and GASP, crossed over the East Side!

Haven Happenings:
Saturday we participated in a city wide clean up. After all the snow, the sidewalks were covered in sand and quite a bit of trash. Now the streets around the church are clean! We had at least 29 people help with the clean up - a good mix of kids and adults. It was a great day! Its so nice to have cleaner streets and sidewalks

After the clean up!

Morgann and Shay posing for a quick picture while cleaning!

Boys love garbage trucks

Can you tell Morgann is screaming to get down in this picture? VT holds a special place in the heart of anyone who has attended or even visited. Whenever we visit, I totally miss those days. I took a lot of it for granted - the beautiful setting, the tight community, the good food, the freedom.

Remember when.....

we moved in as freshmen? I was so scared.

we ice skated on the Duck Pond that really cold winter (Junior Year) Me, Ambo and Chad.

walking across the drillfield. (a million times.)

Our first kiss in the stairwell of New Res. East. (OK, only Rich should remember that one!)

Navy ball. Mil ball. Ring dance. Best of times!

playing "Would you be my friend if....I stuck bubblegum in your hair?" Only if you ate it afterwards!

ELECTRIC!

Primetime in the chapel. Live from Blacksburg....iits primetime. (Old School Cru Meetings)

Fireworks on the drillfield.

We didn't have cell phones...we had IM and ICQ.

Sunday night coffee at oh, gosh, I can't remember the name - the coffee shop next to the Rivermill, that had a cat in there.

Going out. I don't drink at all anymore, but we had some fun times playing pool.

Football games. Emma and I one season always painted VT's on our faces. Jon, her future husband would paint his whole head. There is nothing better than a crisp, sunny autumn day in Lane Stadium, Hokies winning of course!

I'll never forget our time there. We'll never forget the 32 that were killed. Virginia Tech will prevail. It will always be a magical place.

Morgann told me on this visit that she wanted to go to school here. Each week, one kid gets to take "Applebee" home for the weekend. We had him this weekend. This is Applebee's journal...

Applebee visits Morgann’s house

March 22 – 24th

Mr. Hasty brought me home with him from work after school. I
got to hang out at the musical Hasty house for a day! Mr. Hasty then brought me
over to visit Morgann. I arrived on Saturday afternoon, just as Morgann was
about to go to Lowe’s. Apparently, Morgann goes to Lowe’s quite often. Her
family bought a 2-family fixer upper, so Lowe’s is a frequent stop in the Clegg
household. At Lowe’s, I got to ride in a cool, racecar cart. We had fun looking
at all the cool things in Lowe’s. We
also went and picked out paint for Morgann’s room. We had fun pretending in the
window and door section. Morgann pretends that the display doors and windows
are a house. We baked gingerbread cookies. After Lowe’s, we stopped by
Morgann’s church. Morgann, Rich, and Abbey cleaned up the church and got it
ready for Sunday. Morgann’s daddy is the pastor of Grace Haven
Baptist Church.
Mr. Hasty is the music pastor. It’s a unique church. After cleaning the church,
we all went home and rested for a bit. Morgann watched Curious George, while
her mommy and daddy did some projects. Then we dyed Easter Eggs. How fun!
Morgann loved dying the eggs and eating them. Tomorrow is Easter Morning. Jesus
has risen! After dinner, Morgann took a bath and got ready for bed. Tomorrow
would be an exciting day.

It’s Easter morning! Morgann and her family went to church.
Morgann tells me that 6 new visitors came to church. Praise God. The church is
a new church started not long ago and is in an urban neighborhood. 4 kids from
the Community Center came too! They had a great lunch after church and it was a
fun time of food and fellowship. After lunch, Morgann and her family went up to
Epsom with the Hasty’s for another lunch and an Easter Egg hunt. There were a
lot of other kids there and the kids had a great time. Morgann got to play with
her friend Joy for most of the day.

Morgann was pretty tired after a long day of church,
friends, and food. She went straight to bed and quickly fell asleep!

On Monday, its cleaning day! Morgann gets to rest and watch
t.v. on Mondays, while her mommy cleans and gets ready for their busy week. They
went to Target without me and then Morgann took a nap. After nap, Mrs. Simonton
and her kids came over to play and watch Morgann and Eli. Normally, Morgann
goes to Community Center too – there are lots of kids to play with from the
neighborhood. It can be a bit crazy so it was good that Morgann and Eli stayed
behind tonight; the Clegg’s and Hasty’s want to help the kids and tell them
about Jesus. We had a fun time with the
Simonton kids and Eli. We played games and pretended to be cats, superpeople,
and many other things! After the Simonton family and Eli left, Morgann went to
bed. I have enjoyed my visit with
Morgann and her family.

She has been the queen of fashion lately. Morgann's hair has been a mess. Last night after her bath she told me: "I don't want long hair anymore. I want short hair. I want a hair cut." So she happily climbed into the highchair and we got snipping. Here are the final results.

Say Cheese. I just ran my fingers through it this morning to brush it. Morgann will be much happier with that. She hates the dreaded hairbrush.

In other big news, Morgann starts preschool in 2 weeks! She will love it. She's so excited.
Saturday, February 09, 2008

Ski Baby

Okay, so she's not a baby anymore.....

She loved skiing!

And was pretty good.
