| | We have had 9 straight days of sunshine and warmth in New Hampshire. For April, that is an extreme blessing. We still had a good amount of snow on the ground last year at this time. After our record breaking snowfall this winter, the sun's warmth couldn't have come at a better time. I'm a chaplain at a large grocery distribution plant, and part of my job is just to check up on everyone and see how they are doing - what a difference sun makes! We used to wonder why New Hamshirians spent as many waking hours possible outside during the summer - congregating on lawn chairs on the city sidewalk....now we know! After a long, hard winter, you feel the need to spend as much waking hours as possible under sunshine. I've been bringing all my work outside as possible to do on the porch as Morgann plays.
Manchester is divided by the Merrimack River. We are West-siders. West-siders are traditionally French Canadian and Catholic. Over the years, the West Side has become more diverse - however, there is a distinct West side/ East Side division and mentality. We hear stories of old Frenchies, whose brother moved 10 years ago "all the way over to the Eastside, and now I don't see him very much." The funny thing is, I don't go to the East side very often. On Sundays, I do pick up four people for church, but that is the extent of my ventures across the river during a typical week. (I do drive to Concord a few times a week for work and Morgann's school, which to some people here is like leaving the country!) Okay, I'm still getting to the point of the story. 10 days ago, a pedestrian bridge opened within a few minutes walk from our house that links the east side to the west side. It is beautiful and a great walk. Its now one of Morgann and my favorite things to do - go walk the bridge. So we've gone at least 8 times since then and walked - and GASP, crossed over the East Side!
Haven Happenings: Saturday we participated in a city wide clean up. After all the snow, the sidewalks were covered in sand and quite a bit of trash. Now the streets around the church are clean! We had at least 29 people help with the clean up - a good mix of kids and adults. It was a great day! Its so nice to have cleaner streets and sidewalks
 After the clean up!
Morgann and Shay posing for a quick picture while cleaning! Boys love garbage trucks Can you tell Morgann is screaming to get down in this picture? Yeh, I thought so.... |
